Instead, Riley Holiday bought a used bicycle and embarked on a solo cross-country trip from Ohio to California. Lacking a credit card and a cell phone, he lived on $600 and a guitar to earn food money, while sleeping in homeless shelters, youth hostels, town parks and anywhere he could find to pitch his tent. Meanwhile, his five-week 2,361 mile journey led him ever closer to his soul mate, finding bits and pieces of her along the way.

Sometimes you dream about things you've always wanted to do. Sometimes you just go for it. What makes this story so sensational is Palka's ability to tempt us to tempt fate without making us feel like losers for not getting on our own bicycle and writing our own future immediately. In the course of our lives, there will be moments, stories, and people that kick us in the ass and spurs us to take life before it takes us. This is one of them.
